To qualify for a license in most states, Dentists must graduate from 1 out of 56 dental schools associated with the American Dental Association's commission. Dental schools usually last for academic years. Studies begin wit classroom instruction and laboratory work. Types of majors Dentist usually study are anatomy, microbiology, biochemistry, and physiology. Dentists who want to teach or conduct research usually require an additional 2 to 5 years in advance dental training.

Candidates must fulfill the written part of the state license requirements by passing the National Board Dental Examinations.
