In order to become a switchboard operator you must have a high school diploma or GED.
The first step to achieve this career is you have to be able to read,type and spell to take important messages and transfer calls when needed.
The second step is you must use a computer at all times. Basic computer literacy is how ever a quality you must posses. Through your process you will be able to pick up new computer programs easily.
Step three is you must have to have had switch board operating classes. Depending in where your job takes pace these classes may take weeks or even maybe longer.
Step four is you must have the job training as a switchboard operator. This is very specific for the company you are working for. As you may know each company doesn't use the same phone system. Each one is different, and computer setup is integrated with that phone system.
Step five is you must be able to listen carefully to incoming callers. Be pleasant and nice to people.
